Anyone got an Ooni pizza oven

Very keen to buy one but so many choices! Would appreciate hearing whether others went for the gas, wood or multifuel versions and what you think, particularly which fuel you prefer for the latter. Thanks in advance

We have the multi fuelled Karu oven, we can use charcoal or wood or we can buy an attachment which allows us to use gas. We have only used wood and have been very happy with this.

That's helpful thank you

We've got a Karu too, only had it since Christmas and haven''t got a gas adaptor but doing very well with charcoal and wood.

Hoppinggreen · 07/04/2021 10:56

We have one, really like it.
It doesn’t have a gas adapter though and I wish it did.

We bought the ooni 3 (wood pellet powered) last spring and it is fab. Fuel choice was no brainer for us as we have biomass heating powered by pellets so order them by the pallet already. However I like the idea of pellets/charcoal over gas for the authentic wood fired taste.

Thanks all. Just deciding whether we are likely to use options other than gas!

We have a gas one. It's brilliant. Cooks pizza in about 2 minutes. We use it all year round. My DH said he wished he'd bought to multifuel one, but he is the king of gadgets, so I'm not convinced it's necessary. The multifuel ones seem to have a big chimney so possibly less convenient to store than the gas option.

EskSmith · 07/04/2021 12:12

Neolara, the chimney comes off really easily. How is the gas one on flavour? I'd say gas is probably the more straightforward option however wood fired is still easy.

Eyevorbig0ne · 07/04/2021 12:15

We've got weber with pizza oven kit and motorised rotisserie kit. Fab.

EventuallyDistracted · 07/04/2021 14:17

Yes, we just pop our chimney inside the oven when we're not using it.

maggiethecat · 08/04/2021 11:30

Bought Dh a portable one 2 Christmas’ ago and he’s not used it yet so am tempted to have a go.

Is it straightforward to set up and use?

SantaMonicaPier · 09/04/2021 18:44

I've heard it's really straightforward to use. Just ordered the multifuel :)

We have the ooni 3 and love it! There’s only two of us so the pellets work well. If you’re cooking more than 3 pizzas at a time then I’d probably go for gas. I usually get 3 pizzas out of it then it needs about 15 mins to get back up to temp again.

skeggycaggy · 09/04/2021 20:35

Think we have the Karu but we’ve only used wood with it.

BitchIAmFromChicago · 09/04/2021 20:36

There’s a few ooni groups of Facebook if you want to get an idea on dough making etc...it’s a bit of an art!Grin

SantaMonicaPier · 11/04/2021 08:27

Thanks for that, have joined several groups!

Don't use fresh mozzarella balls (the ones that come in the bag of weird white water) It made the base all wet and it didn't cook properly.

meg70 · 12/04/2021 23:19

Ooni Koda (gas) brilliant! So easy and quick. Join 'Ooni community uk' on FB and read through their 'pinned' files...that will tell u everything you need to know. If you are a pizza fan it's a total life-changer!

SantaMonicaPier · 09/05/2021 21:05

Thanks again all. Our Karu has arrived and we are beyond excited about trying it out!
