Just made the Birds custard following the microwave instructions. It is very thin, what should I have done?

I much prefer thick custard. The kids are eating it now with the summer fruit crumble.

I find it works better with full fat milk and is a bit thin with semi-skinned.

microwave for another 30seconds to thicken - I make it with semi-skimmed

I always put in a bit more custard powder than it says on the tin.

Buy Taste the difference from Sainsburys.

Ohh, that birds packet stuff is always like that, (is it the packet) my MIL is a devotee of birds packet stuff, it's horrible. The tinned stuff is good, I always use full fat milk to make it up though.

Add some (good) vanilla essence and half a pint of double cream.

Arteries be damned!

full fat milk and treble the amount of custard powder (mind you i was brought up on slices of custard with my crumble )

It was the powder in the tin like pot. (Was best before Oct 07 but I decided to risk it!)

I used full fat milk, the kids ate it but I wouldn't have done. Custard has to be thick!

What is the ready made custard like in a tin? Occasioanlly have bought the fresh stuff but that doesn't always have a long enough date. Try not to give the kids anything with too much crap in and I find the tinned stuff tastes false and sweet.

I always double the amount of powder because ut's far to thin otherwise.
