DS is 14 weeks and has regularly started waking up twice in night starving. he feeds every 2-3 hours all day on both boobs. have heard so much advice that you shouldn't start weaning til 6 months, but DS won't take a bottle to supplement so when can i feasibly start him on baby rice? am finding night wakings tough going after having him sleep through from 3 weeks!!!

I held out till 25 weeks with DD

although for DS the given advice was 16 weeks and I weaned him at 14 weeks .. BUT I didn't know the 6 month advice

Personally I'd hold off weaning as its all about helping minimise the chances of them developing asthma / excema in later life .. so if they do, you'd never know if it was 'cos you'd weaned early or not

baby rice won't make any difference to him sleeping through though ..

Pidge - exactly! Because on the flip side, I was bottle fed, weaned on jars and brought up in the 70s on chips and egg, chips and fish fingers, chips and sausage, chips and beans ! I've no allergies whatsoever, I've only got one filling, I'm a slim size 10, low BP - perfectly fit and healthy! I think a lot of it is genetics - no allergies in our family at all, no illnesses, heart problems etc.....

It just makes me wonder if we go right over the top nowadays. I think I'm one of the only people I know that 'dares' to put a Breakaway in ds's lunchbox!!!

Sorry, gone off on a bit of a tangent there!

Very interesting thread - my mum thinks I'm terrible for not starting to wean DD (15 weeks) but she had her babies in the 70s. She loves to tell me I was given tatties and mince at 8 weeks

I read somewhere that breastmilk and formula has loads more calories and that a few spoonfuls of baby rice is not going to make much difference and that it is usually coincidence that babies start to sleep through at that age and nothing to do with baby rice.
