what do I feed 1yo who's just had stomach bug

DD (and I) have had the stomach bug that is doing the rounds.

Her appetite isn't quite back yet - and it doesn't help that she's teething furiously so won't eat much in the way of ricecake or so on.

She's having loads of bf. But what else do I feed her? NHS Direct said fibre, the practice nurse said No Vegetables. It doesn't help that she's not yet having any dairy.

Who's right? Or what works well? Any suggestions?

DS is in teh throes of a tummy bug

today he has had toast with butter and pasta with butter and a sprinkling of parmesan

No expert (by any stretch of the imagination) but maybe something that you know she likes (within reason) just so she gets something inside her. Think bananas are supposed to be gentle on the tum - maybe a bit of baked banana?

bland white carb
so toast, or rice, or plain pasta, or mashed potato
tbh bf is the best thing so don't worry if she doesn't want to eat

Mmm baked banana. Might make two of those!

NHS Direct are wrong as usual - fibre after a tummy bug can lead to 'todder diarrhoea'. Breast milk and sloppy foods are best so that her digestive system can heal over before being 'scratched' inside by fibre. But small amounts of her favourite things to make her feel better are always good anyway!

We've just recently been through this with ds. I give plain boiled rice, plain pasta, dry crackers, bland soups, grated apple, banana and the like. I used to keep him off dairy as a matter of course until he had done some solid poop, but the last bug left him with an intolerence. Oh, sorry, just read that your dd isn't on dairy yet.

Oh and LOTS of breastmilk.

bananas, rice, apple sauce, toast i heard.

Thankyou everyone. Good to know I wasn't doing the wrong thing when I fed her rice last night, and then she threw it up!
