Lamb smell Help!

I've just unwrapped a leg of lamb from its wrapper and it smells quite unpleasant.
It looks fine, all nice and pink but dd has walked into the kitchen asking if I'm suffering bowel issues, as it smells so farty
Am I getting a takeaway tonight?

I would wash it, dry it and cook it. If it looks pink its most likely fine.
I'm not sure if you supposed to wash red meat but I do.

See what it smells like in 10 minutes.
If it smells better then it's OK, if it still smells bad then takeout it is.

Was it in one of those tight plastic supermarket wraps? I think they put a gas in there that helps them stay fresh longer but ironically smells a bit off when you open it. Is there a use by date?

Yes tight supermarket wrap, use by is 23rd.

Just let it sit and reassess. Sometimes meat does smell rank straight out of the plastic.

It's dead animal wrapped up in air-tight plastic, it's not going to smell of roses. Let it sit (which you should anyway before cooking) - it'll be fine if the date says 23rd.

My dead animal smells fine now, not of roses though - who'da thought it?
