Best home made pizza toppings

We’ve recently started ‘homemade pizza night’ but have been sticking to our favourite toppings (cheese and tomato for DS, goats cheese / parma ham / rocket or antipasti meats / sliced cheese / chilli for adults...)

Fancy trying something different but lacking in creativity and ideas so please tell me - what are your favourite toppings / combinations ?

Ooooo. If I’m too lazy to make a sauce I use a nice arabbiata sauce as the ‘tomatoey’ but. Yummmmm

My favourite pizza (from Ask Italian)- which we have attempted to recreate at home has, as a topping, purple basil pesto, burrata, pine nuts and rocket.

Roasted aubergine and smoked mozzarella

Pesto base with serano ham and artichoke hearts and goats cheese

Caramelised red onion, chorizo, mozzarella, black olives, chorizo

White base (creme fraiche mixed with garlic and olive oil), ham and mushrooms (pre-cooked in butter)

Olives, anchovies and capers.

Or my version of an old Pizza Express one: blue cheese, walnuts and rocket.

Ricotta, rosemary, new potatoes, smoked anchovies (no tomato)

Can you share your dough recipe please? I would like to do pizza night hut have never got the dough quite right and dh keeps buying those premade cardboard circle bases

Or sundries tomatoes, black olives and salami

Courgette ribbons (use a veg peeler to shave off thin slices of courgette and mix with a tiny bit of olive oil and Parma/Serrano ham, marscapone and pine nuts.

If you like it hot: Nduja, chorizo and chilli jam.

Gorgonzola, bacon and caramelised onion.

For the kids we buy shredded mozzarella when make pizzas as it's easier to cover evenly. We will slice up a ball of mozz for ourselves generously sprinkled with oregano.

I don't recommend fresh cherry tomatoes if your making it at home - they tend to roll off when you're trying to get the base onto the pizza stone.

We make the dough in the bread machine and then let it prove another 30 mins, and make Jamie Oliver's tomato and basil pizza sauce. (If you like a really thin and crispy base and own a bread machine, the recipe is from the Mum in the Madhouse blog and it's so good. We tried several but this one works best!)

Also adding a teaspoon of white miso paste to the tomato sauce has been a game changer

I saw Jusroll pizza base in Waitrose today in the butter area. I think it was sourdough. I was just wondering if anyone had tried it?

Lately I discovered Lebanese Za'atar and have used that a few times on pizza. It has oregano, thyme, and sumac. The one I have also has sesame seeds in it. I think it may also have marjoram.

I also used it on air fried potatoes last night and they were delicious.

Ndjura sausage and goats cheese.

And for anyone who wants a nice pre-made base. Tesco sour dough pizza bases. Amazing but small.

My hubby loves saves up the crumbs that come off spicy breaded goujons (like chicken ones) and bundle up in the bottom of the bag/box. He sprinkles them on top of cheese pizza and swears by it. Says it's an amazing combination!

The Jus-rol sourdough base was a bit disappointing, tbh. I thought it was going to be a game changer but it was just somewhere between meh and ok.

As a pp said, our best is the stuff we make in the bread maker. That now lives in the shed so we often can’t be arsed. But it really is brilliant for pizza dough.

Fajita style, peppers, red onion, sweet corn, cooked chicken, fajita seasoning.

Ah thanks for letting me know! I've tried the Napolina ones and didn't like them!

My go to is Parma ham, red pepper, mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes and onions. None of that pre made pizza mix though. Has to be mozzarella all the way (and I prefer buffalo mozzarella tbqh).

The trick is kneading rather than rolling, prebaking the pizza base for a few minutes so that it doesn't go soggy and brushing the edges with oil once you've your sauce and toppings on. Imo anyway.

Used to love seafood pizza in South Africa. Shrimps, mussels and calamari. Bacon and ripe banana (not the kind of banana available here sadly. Vine matured banana is very different from what you get here). Bacon and avocado
