At home restaurant meal boxes

Hi all

After a year of cooking meals at home I can officially say I am very bored of it!!

We have tried Gousto, we liked it but found the full priced boxes are a bit over priced and we kept having quality issues with the meat being sent.

As a nice treat for the weekend we have been looking at some of the restaurant meal boxes around, basically meals which are pre-prepared and couriered and all you need to do it heat up.

Has anyone had any which were a success? For me and DP most are around the £50 mark plus shipping so not much less than what we would pay to eat out- and we still have to do the washing up Wink so I don't want to spend that money unless it's going to be good.

Any recommendations please? Smile

Only one I’ve tried is Cote at Home which was great and not expensive. Want to try Hawksmoor but that is a lot more. Taking notes from this thread!

Titsywoo · 05/03/2021 22:59

I've just ordered my second dishoom bacon naan set and the 4 burgers from Patty and Bun and I blame you all!

LizziesTwin · 05/03/2021 23:06

We had Galvin at home, £55 per head plus delivery and it was very good. The crab lasagne starter was outstanding. Not too fiddly & video available. No chopping required.

We also had Trishna/Gymkhana (mix of both) and it came a day late & was very salty, some dishes were almost inedible.

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 05/03/2021 23:06

The Dishoom naan is incredible, I really wasn't sure about it but it was perfect.

Regarding Pasta Evangelists, I thought the pasta itself was excellent, but the sauces disappointing.

BookShark · 05/03/2021 23:09

We get Pasta Evangelists and I'd agree with the comment up thread that it's nice, but not restaurant quality. But a nice midweek minimal cooking treat, especially as we all pick different dishes.

I'd recommend checking out local restaurants as well. So near us (Kingston) we have this lepetitnantais.co.uk/#takeaway and the food is lovely and just needs heating up. But it will never turn up on a "restaurant at home" Google search. Equally, lots of pubs near us doing takeaways - a full Sunday roast delivered is a lot less effort than cooking it!

Titsywoo · 05/03/2021 23:12

There are many better options than Pasta Evangelists - Padella, Lina Stores, La Tua, La Nonna etc

lurker101 · 05/03/2021 23:16

I didn’t know Padella were doing kits!!! Thank you! How does Patty&Bun kit compare to their dining? We can get them delivered here, but would try the kit as a change if it’s fun.
We had the Bleecker x Bao kit, which was really good! So for St Paddy’s we’ve ordered the Bleecker Black kit with Clonakilty Black Pudding 😍

MiniMaxi · 05/03/2021 23:19

Hawksmoor box very good.
Enjoyed Made in Olstead (Tommy Banks) too.

Both around the £90 mark for two people.

Cheaper options: the DIY Shoryu Ramen kit is fun, and you can’t go wrong with Lina Stores!

BookShark · 05/03/2021 23:36

Well I was discussing this with DH and we've decided to go for a Brigadiers box for next week. Fingers crossed it lives up to the pictures!

Titsywoo · 06/03/2021 00:55

There's some guys on YouTube who have done lots of videos trialling these DIY meals. This video has the hoppers one and it does look really good! I'm just unsure about it as it isn't clear how spicy it is and I don't do mega spicy food

robertsradiofan · 15/03/2021 17:19

I've ordered a Patty and Bun box as well as a Cote at Home box.
If anyone wants a £10 off code for their first order let me know (ill need your email address) you'll get a £10 code and I will too Smile

We had the patty and bun burgers this weekend. Really nice although we still prefer the ones from Honest Burger.

Chewbecca · 17/03/2021 08:33

We’ve had a few, and still up for trying more!

Woods in Manchester (Simon Wood, previous Masterchef winner). It was good but portions too delicate for us.

Rogan at Home - we collected from London but they’re doing nationwide delivery now. This was fantastic. Not that intricate but the flavours were on another level.

We’ve got a curry box coming from the Michelin starred curry place in
Manchester in a couple of weeks, I have forgotten the name!

Every Tuesday I try to order a box from Northcote - Lisa Goodwin-Allen (they release 350 a week) but haven’t been successful yet!

I love this concept, it’s opened up a whole new world of non local restaurants to us.

Chewbecca · 17/03/2021 08:34

Oh and we have had the waagyu burger from Haar at home - really tasty, bacon a little over salty but would definitely recommend.

RememberWhenWe · 17/03/2021 08:38

We've got one coming today! No idea where from as it's a present for Mother's Day. Will report back later...

Mumblechum0 · 17/03/2021 08:39

Cote at home is excellent imo

Chewbecca · 17/03/2021 09:19

My curry is coming from Opheem, Aktar Islam’ restaurant in Birmingham.

TH22 · 17/03/2021 09:29

This thread is making me hungry!

I had one from Shoryu last week. I love Shoryu ramen and it was absolutely delicious. I ordered through restokit and got £10 off the first order by using the code TIMEOUT10.

BlingLoving · 18/03/2021 13:49

We had a Blacks Burgers one which was simple but fab. DS, who is gloriously loyal to my cooking said, slightly hesitantly, "Mum, these are even better than your burgers". High praise indeed. It's difficult for us as DH doesn't really like restaurant food - he's a simple soul - but I keep meaning to order something from Dispatch because I think there's often a good selection of less "fancy" and less rich food on there. I might check it out for June as it looks like the ones we'd like are all sold out for April already.

BlingLoving · 18/03/2021 13:52

Actually, the vietnamese feast on Dispatch could work for us except for the prawns.... does anyone know if there's ever an option to ask for an alternative? I'm assuming not?

If you click on the meal, there's a "select option" button which will tell you if there's a choice.
