Lunch ideas for 11m old

Looking for some lunch ideas for my 11 month old.

He's a great eater, I'm just rubbish at cooking/thinking up meal ideas.

He has the usual toast, crackers, soup, scrambled egg but feel he will eventually get bored of this.

Any ideas welcome

My kids loved eggy bread at that age, especially if it was cut into shapes before frying. Soup with big pasta in it is good too or smooth soup in a lidless cup with toast or bread fingers to dip.

5 bean chili - get a can of Mexican beans in water, passata, sweet potato, onion, and a little paprika, cumin, ground corianda and oregano. Good for batch cooking

Can of Salmon, mayonnaise and pasta

Avocado on toast

Veggie omlette

Veggie nuggets are popular with my DDs. Whatever veg you have mashed up a bit, mix it with an egg, roll in breadcrumbs and fry in olive oil.

We usually do sandwiches or toast tbh we are quite boring, but some fillings DD likes:

  • Cream cheese - Philly/supermarket own brand/dairylea triangles...
  • Three cheese and onion spread
  • Egg mayo
  • Quorn bacon
  • Cheese
  • Jam
  • Peanut butter
  • Quorn chicken/ham style slices
  • Quorn cocktail sausages

Also likes boiled eggs (although only eats the whites now she's 2 Hmm ) and fried egg with soldiers to dip in the yolk.

Sometimes we do toasties with the toastie maker like cheese and tomato, cheese and pesto, cheese and onion, brie and cranberry.

She likes couscous salads too.

Very occasionally we might have pizza and/or cheesy chips.

Lunch in our house is usually leftovers from the night before, but if I am cooking lunch it's usually:

Egg muffins with grated veg
Frittata
Quesadilla with whatever fillings I have (tuna avo, avo cheese, ham and cheese)
French toast roll ups with jam and cream cheese
Jacket potato
Pancakes made with banana and oats
Pasta with red or white sauce
Toasties
Anything from 'what mummy makes' book which is like a bible to me, especially the sheetpan type meals
Chapati filled with potato or lentils

Typing all this and my 1YO is so fussy who lives off pasta 😩😩

alexio · 16/02/2021 21:34

@Littleguggi I haven't heard of that book I'll need to have a look! I'm terrible at cooking so stuff that is easy like sheet pan would be great.

My 11mo is a good eater but has become a bit fussy recently with certain foods he did like so think I need to switch it up a bit.

@alexio honestly the book is amazing and many of the recipes can be frozen, so you could batch cook and just take it out the freezer the night before. I also love her hidden veg pasta sauce, which can not only be used in pasta but as a pizza sauce, thinned out to make a soup, or alongside meat/ fish.

My LO has been fussy from day one. There's a section in the book for 'fussy eaters' but she won't even eat any of those meals, I'm persevering but it's exhausting!

All of the below are generally served with tomatoes, cucumber, and whatever other raw veg I can convince him to try plus fruit:

Soft cheese and smoked salmon on a slice of bread

Quesadillas (generally refried beans and cheese feature heavily, sometimes shredded chicken)

Pitta with chicken pieces or falafel (under no circumstances am I to stuff the chicken/falafel and salad in the pitta. It has to be separate)

Cheese on toast

Cheese and crackers

Cheese scone

Pasty or sausage roll

Pizza

Pesto or stir through sauce pasta

Quiche

Fry up breakfast for lunch - hash brown, sausage, egg, mushrooms and tomatoes (I basically shove the whole lot in the oven together but serve the tomatoes raw and hardboil the egg)
