Anyone own a Magimix?

I bought one with some JL gift vouchers but am regretting the decision. It takes up loads of space and the clean-up is a nightmare. When you use one of the small bowls, you end up having to wash up all the other components as they get spattered. So the draining rack is piled high with slow-drying plastic parts. Am I missing a trick here or is this just a complete pain in the neck kitchen item? I wish I'd got a Kitchen Aid mixer instead. How do others use their Magimix?

Yes, you do have to wash everything after using the small bowl. It is a pain but the benefits outweigh the negatives.

I have a Kenwood mixer and a Magimix food processor. They are different machines with different functions but I love them both. I wouldn't get a Kitchen Aid, I think the Kenwood is better (although admittedly not as pretty).

Thanks@emmagrundyforpm, what different functions does the Kenwood mixer have that the Magimix food processor doesn't? I thought the Magimix also had a dough hook etc, like the mixer? What do you use your Magimix for? I need inspiration to get it out of the cupboard.

I love my Magimix. I do use it for dough, it takes minutes - seconds even, compared to doing by hand. Mostly though I use for chopping/grating/slicing, if everything is going in together then I don't wash in between, and if I've used the big bowl then I won't bother washing it before using the small bowl. Then it all goes in the dishwasher...

@lordemsworth I didn't know you could dishwasher the bowls. That changes things!

I use the magimix for food processor functions. eg chopping, grating, blending etc. I use my Kenwood for baking- cakes, bread etc.

I've had mine 15 years and love it but it's big and pain to clean. I have a KitchenAid mixer too - the two aren't really the same thing, they have different functions.

The bowl thing is a pain, but at least they go in the dishwasher. I like my magimix because it’s a workhorse and can handle most things easily.

When using the small bowl I take the medium one out so at least it’s just two getting dirty and then all goes into the dishwasher.

I keep mine out. I use it for soup, grating, pate, slicing, pastry, buttercream. Biscuits and scones. I used to make cakes in it perfectly well. I use the kmix now for that but honestly it doesn't justify the houseroom. The meringues snd cake I use it fir could be done in the magimix.

I've got it out now and using it more. It's definitely more usable if you don't have to go through the slight mental/physical challenge of lifting it from the cupboard each time. Thanks all!

@newyorkbreakfast I trained my kids to use it too. They grated all their cheese in it when they made themselves pasta as teenagers, and learned to whip themselves up some shortbread after school!

You could get into the habit of blitzing onions/garlic/singer together (in any combination) when you are making casseroles, Indian or Chinese meals. I use the mini bowl for this.

@downthefarm good idea! I tried doing a cake mix in the large bowl - butter, sugar, flour etc- but it didn't seem to rise very well. That might be nothing to do with the poor Magimix however...!

I have an old Magamix (over 30yrs). I use it occasionally for cakes.Tryadding a bit more liquid and it may help.

Yes I have one, hardly ever use it, pain to clean, takes up too much cupboard space.

I use mine a lot and agree the bowl thing is pain but generally speaking I love it. The only thing that ended badly was trying to blend homemade soup 🙈 not sure why I thought that would go well!

I've got one. Hate it. Yes it's got a powerful motor, but it's so badly designed with all the bowl cleaning faffage. And it's so bloody heavy. I'm going to sell it. It can go and sit its bloody fat heavy self and all its annoying appendages in someone else's cupboard.

I have one and it's heavy and a bit of a faff but I do love it. I'm not sure why, it might just be sentimental value because it was my mum's.

I don't tend to use it for baking, apart from making pastry (which it's great for). It's also fab for icing and buttercream. Anything with icing sugar really, it's so much better than the kitchenaid for icing sugar as it's all trapped and can't blow out all over the kitchen.

It's great for chopping veg for home made coleslaw or ratatouille. Dauphinoise potatoes also really quick and easy.

I ended up buying a magimix mini rather than use the small bowls and I store it with the slicer disc in place as that's what I use the most.

My Magimix is about 15 years old and I'd replace it tomorrow if it gave up. It stays out on the worktop and used regularly. It's brilliant for soup, pâté, pastry, grating, slicing. Yes, the cleaning is a bit of a faff but everything goes in the dishwasher.

I also have a KitchenAid which is beautiful. Great for cakes, meringues, whipping cream etc. Love it but wouldn't rush to replace it.

@newyorkbreakfast the trick is to mix them quickly. Add tap baking powder to SR flour too, and half a tap to activate it-eg lemon juice or wine vinegar.
