If you were presented with around 30 lemons what would you do with them? I need straightforward ideas. They smell delicious! (not in the UK at present)

So far I have: lemon curd, squeezing over cooking, drinking lots of gin!

I am not very knowledgeable in the kitchen but open to suggestions.

Thank you 🍋

Lemonade
Lemon drizzle cake
Delia’s lemon meringue ice cream

Georgyporky · 09/02/2021 12:16

Preserve them, recipes on-line.

Dashie · 09/02/2021 12:42

Thank you, I’m going to attempt lemon meringue pie.

Georgyporky, what do you use preserved lemons for?

As far as the drinking lots of gin thing goes ... I always have slices of lemon (and pink grapefruit) frozen for gin, so that could see off a fair few of them?

Not what you're thinking of, but cleaning?

Butterfly chicken breasts marinate in lemon, olive oil, garlic, parsley and tarragon, then grill.
Lemon sorbet
Tart au citron

Lemon rice
Lemon chicken
Big jug of water with some lemons sliced in to drink

Lemon surprise pudding
Lemon ice cream

They keep pretty well in the fridge so no need to rush. Preserved lemons are delicious and often feature in other middle Eastern or north African recipes like tagines.

Thank you, there are some really good ideas here. I hadn’t even thought of cleaning products bearlyactive.

The pasta recipe sounds really easy but very tasty.

UnaOfStormhold what is lemon surprise pudding? I hadn’t thought of ice cream, I did think sorbet might be nice.

I would say Moroccan preserved lemons, but if you don't cook a lot you probably won't use them!

TBH, they keep very well in the veg drawer at the bottom of the fridge (like, weeks and weeks). I'd cook Marcella Hazan's chicken with 2 lemons every week which is the easiest and tastiest recipe you will ever find for chicken, with only three ingredients - chicken, two lemons, and salt - not even any oil: www.foodandwine.com/recipes/roast-chicken-lemons

A lot of recipes that use up a single lemon - for instance, making a breadcrumb crust for fish (all the zest) and then squeezing the juice over, or pan-frying fish and then making a pan sauce with butter and lemon juice and capers. Over a week you could use up 7 lemons just in normal cooking!

Littlefiendsusan · 09/02/2021 14:25

I know what I'd do with a couple of the lemons: cut into slices, freeze them (on a tray, laid out so they don't all freeze together, then pack into a container) for your future G&T's.

MirandaMarple · 09/02/2021 18:45

Definitely preserve them.

Slice and freeze for drinks.

lljkk · 09/02/2021 18:49

Lemonade for sure.

Check this recipe for a Spanish lemon cake using just a yoghurt pot to measure all of your ingredients. Very easy and very tasty.

Dashie · 10/02/2021 07:07

Thank you for all these ideas, I am going to enjoy using up the lemons!

I think make lots and lots of lemon curd as it has so many uses. It only lasts for 6 months so you could consider freezing it. We do.

Notanorthadontist · 10/02/2021 09:22

Lemon gin
Lemon pickle/chutney

Notanorthadontist · 10/02/2021 09:23

Oh, I forgot Limoncello- delicious

Sarahandduck18 · 10/02/2021 09:26

Squeeze them and freeze the Juice in ice cube trays.

Pancake day isn’t far away!

SoupDragon · 10/02/2021 09:30

Slice and freeze for drinks.

This. I freeze wedges and use them as ice cubes for water in the summer.
