We have been having this often lately. I steam it also with cauliflower for same amount of time. We do have it with meat though but also lots of other veg and gravey. With leeks would be nice.

bagpuss · 01/11/2007 12:46

I would just treat it as normal cauliflower. Its really lovely to look at though isn't it? Good for children as it has a milder taste than regular cauli.

ooooh, its my favourite fun veg. its a fractal veg It appears in our riverford box but so far we haven't got one this year

I cook it like a cauliflower, or eat it raw.

HairyIrene · 02/11/2007 15:01

oh, raw really?
like in a winter salad type thing..

educate me, what is fractal veg?
if you cook it, what do you serve it with!

Its the old mandelbrot set idea, If you look at it close up the close up is just like the larger image. And the closer you look the more the pattern repeats itself. The maths itself is complicated but thats essentially it. So its is one very cool vegetable

I serve it like crudites in lunchboxes. Yes I know thats poncy but there you go I did draw the line at dd serving it at her birthday party!

I'm jealous you have one!

HairyIrene · 02/11/2007 20:20

..fractal, it sort of dawned on me later reallyscarybadbitten..

That sounds nice

i make a tomato sauce with lots of garlic (& chilli if the children aren't going to have it), then steam the cauliflower, squidge it with a fork & add it to the sauce. yum.
