Scones that aren't cakey

I have for many years used the Mary Berry recipe for scones that use both self-raising flour and baking powder. They are light and fluffy and taste good. But other people make scones that kinda have more substance to them, less light and cake-like but with more bite (though not rocks of course). I quite like that. Any recipes/tips to share?

How long you knead them for makes a huge difference to the texture. I barely handle mine because I like them cakey. Try kneading a bit more and see if that helps.

That's a good tip. I barely knead also -
