Thickly butter the bread and cut into triangles. Make up a custard mix with milk, egg yolks, vanilla and sugar. Layer the triangles in a buttered baking dish and sprinkle over the sultanas. Pour over the custard and sprinkle on the nutmeg. Bake in oven. Scoff.
That's what I'd do anyway.

www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/breadandbutterpuddin_85936.shtml

Try looking here, the ingredients may not be exactly the same but it will give you an idea.

Enjoy!

Don't stress, just butter the bread, cut it in half diagonally and layer it up with the sultanas in a oven proof dish.
Then beat the eggs with the sugar and add the nutmeg. Heat the milk and pour over the egg mixture and mix thoroughly until all the sugar has dissolved. Pour the mix over the bread and leave to rest for a few minutes.

Bake in a low oven for about 40 minutes - I think.

I will google a proper recipe for you in a mo.

I think the recipe said half pint of milk, 300mls of double cream and 6 egg yolks.

does that sound right??

hmmmm, 6 yolks seems an awful lot after looking at the BBC recipe.

I'm positive it was 6 though.

It was recipe card I picked up in tesco a while ago, I'll stop being a lazyarse and search for it online myself

BTW, when I told the dsses I'd left the recipe in the basket they were gutted, they all wantto help so I said "Don'r worry I'll ask MN" Ds2 said "Mumsnet knows everything mum, doesn't it??"

Thats my boy!!

I have been busy in the kitchen this weekend too. Yesterday I made ginger biscuits and chocolate brownies and today I have made banana and choc chip muffins, chocolate and raspberry ripple cake and a roast dinner is in the oven as I type.

LadyTophamHatt · 28/10/2007 16:28

My kitchen looks like I've cooked all that too Nab.....
I think it took about 20 minutes to prepare the whol ething but my kitchen looks like it hasn't been tidied for 3 weeks!!!
