How to cook frozen joint of beef?

Was wanting to put it straight in the slow cooker this morning but it hasn't defrosted!

Have had a Google and it seems like I shouldn't put it in the SC while frozen. Can I cook it in the oven on low for a while to defrost and then pop it in the slow cooker?

Don't want to kill us all Grin

Could you use the cold water method to defrost it first
