Has anyone made their own wine? Was it any good?

After tackling sloe gin, sloe brandy and quince brandy this year I'm considering expanding my skill base and making fruit wine (probably starting with sloes as they're the only wild fruit around atm). Has anyone got experience of it? How does the taste compare to normal wine? ie will dark fruits have a tannic red wine taste or is it something different altogether?

TIA

I always want to know obscure stuff that no-one has the answer to, if it's not this is Weight Watchers cook books.

My mother makes homemade wine. It can be good. Not the same as Chateau Lafitte, but um, interesting all the same.

Elderberry or plum were the best ones, iirc.

But you can buy wines made from various fruits in the shops, so why not check those out, and that will give you something to compare against, tastewise.

Thanks for the reply, I don't feel quite to lonely anymore.

That's a good idea thanks. Sloes are closely related to plums so might be a good one to start with.
