Xmas pudd in microwave?

Hi- I’ve been given a home made Xmas pudding. I think it’s about 800g- a standard pudding basin. (Scales out of battery so can’t check.) it’s had its initial 5 hour steaming.

Can I cook it on the day (ie warm it up for eating) in a microwave, and if so how long should I give it? (Microwave power can be adjusted to suit).

Also, it’s in a plastic pudding basin with a lid- should I remove this to microwave? Or leave it in?

Very grateful for any advice!

These are the heating instructions for an 800g Christmas pud from Morrison’s. I guess Christmas pudding is Christmas pudding. It says -for microwave-to remove the lid and pierce film so you could take your lid off, then cling film it & pierce it

Cooking Instructions - General. Cooking appliances vary. These instructions are given as a guide. Please ensure that the product is piping hot throughout before serving. Do not reheat.; Hob - From Ambient. 2 hrs
Remove outer packaging. Do not remove film lid. Use a saucepan with a trivet or heat resistance saucer in the base to avoid direct heat. Put the basin on the trivet/saucer. Fill the pan with water to half the height of the basin and cover. Bring to the boil and simmer. Ensure water does not enter the pudding. Do not allow the pan to boil dry. To release pudding press base of bowl before lifting.; Microwave - From Ambient. Cat E 850w 4 min 30 sec
Cat D 750w 5 min
Remove outer packaging and pierce film lid. Place on a non-metallic plate.
Heat on full power for 2 minutes 30 seconds (Cat E/900W, Cat D/800W). Allow to stand for 2 minutes. Heat on full power for a further 2 minutes (Cat E/900W), 2 minutes 30 seconds (Cat D/800W). Allow to stand for 3 minutes. To release pudding press base of bowl before lifting.; Steam - From Ambient. 2 hrs
Remove outer packaging. Do not remove film lid. Place basin in a steamer over boiling water. Ensure water does not enter the pudding. Do not allow the pan to boil dry. To release pudding press base of bowl before lifting.

I always do christmas pud in the mee-crow-war-vey

I do it on half the power recommended for twice the time plus a minute on full whack.

if you do it too long on high I find the fruit inside can start to go queer...sort of rubbery but caramelised and since there is such a lot of fruit you need the gentler heat I think.

It's never the same in the microwave, IMO. Not as light and delicate.

Steam it for an hour.

Microwave it (with the lid off) but never ever tell the person who made it. Lucky you.
