My oven has just died -along with everything else - HELP ME

So my car just needed urgent repairs totalling over £200, my dryer start button has stopped working and my boiler has just started making the worse sound, all of which I was working with/getting by. BUT my oven has completely fucked up and is tripping the electrics when I try to turn it on. I have put the feelers out for a repair company tonight but failing that- How the fuck do I cook a turkey, roast potatoes, stuffing balls and pigs in blankets with no oven!!!!

Are you friendly with your neighbours? Could you ask them?

When my next door neighbour had multiple family members for Christmas (many years ago now), we let them cook some of their food in our oven and then they just heated it all up once it was cooked.

Got a BBQ? You could do the turkey and pigs in blankets on there ...stuffing could go in the microwave and then pan roast potatoes

Slow cooker and air fryer. Turkey goes in slow cooker (ideally whole if it's not to big). You won't get crispy skin but it will cook. pigs in blankets and roasties in air fryer. Or pigs in blankets under the grill if that's working.

Airfryer, halogen oven from argos

Onmyright · 23/12/2020 02:04

Is your grill still working? I'd look up a YouTube video on how to spatchcock a turkey and I'd grill it or failing that I'd use a heavy bottomed pan with a lid and braise the turkey over some veg on the cooker top. Parboil the potatoes and soak in oil then either grill or pan fry. The stuffing and pigs in blankets can all be shallow fried on a hot pan.

What else do you have - slow cooker, air fryer etc?

dudsville · 23/12/2020 09:39

What a nightmare you're having! Our oven stopped working last year right before Christmas. We googled it and the problem was easy to fix with a cheap part delivered next day by Amazon. Have you tried that?

Nohomemadecandles · 23/12/2020 09:44

Tell us what you DO have.

Can you butcher the turkey and do in segments? Slow cooker or pressure cooker or pan fry fillets of breast?
Microwave for the stuffing if it's paxo.
Fewer roasts (sauté) and more mash?

Sorry for the late response, I'm in work so just on my break. Thank you all for reminding me that I do indeed have a slow cooker!! I'll google the timings for it. I luckily haven't got my turkey yet so I think I'll get a crown instead of a full bird this year. I'm a bit sad about that Cos I love cooking and love the look of a proper golden roasted turkey coming out of the oven! But after this year.............

Blow torch it!

pinkbalconyrailing · 23/12/2020 12:42

do you have a microwave with oven function?
a large crock pot?

Bonkerz · 23/12/2020 12:57

Halogen ovens are amazing for roast potatoes. We managed to borrow 2 for Christmas a few years ago when we had no oven. Great dinner cooked using steamer and slow cooker too

NoSquirrels · 23/12/2020 13:10

Make this the year you have something different? I would. If you haven’t bought the turkey yet, I’d scrap all traditional plans till the oven was operational again and make something else.
