I love baking, but need serious help with a celebratory and decadent chocolate cake for my husband's birthday. Any time I look for recipes for chocolate cakes there's so much variety and choice I find it impossible to make a decision about which one to try.

I usually make husband a layered coconut and lime cake, but I baked so many coconut cakes during lockdown I think that one would no longer be such a treat Grin. Please help me out!

This is possibly the most indulgent cake I’ve baked realfood.tesco.com/recipes/double-chocolate-fudge-cake.html

Edd Kimber’s Guinness cake is a hit with my DH www.sainsburysmagazine.co.uk/recipes/chocolate/chocolate-and-guinness-cake?

I came across this recipe whilst searching for a cake for New Years Eve www.olivemagazine.com/recipes/entertain/baileys-chocolate-cake/

Thanks @Fivemoreminutes1. That Tesco recipe looks ideal - very indulgent indeed. I've always wanted to try a chocolate and Guinness cake but think for a birthday cake I'd better stick to plain chocolate and lots of it. Guinness cake is definitely on the agenda for another time though.

Throw out any other recipes for chocolate cake, this cake is the one you need! Goes down incredibly well every time I make it!

@dallafela Please could you share your coconut and lime cake recipe. Sounds amazing!

See, this is my problem - all these recipes sound delicious. Thank you @Petrarkanian, @bearlyactive and @madmumofteens

@TaleOfTheContinents unfortunately it's a cake I've kind of cobbled together over the years to make my husband his 'ultimate' cake, as he's a coconut fiend. The sponge is the one from this really great Delia recipe which I double:

www.deliaonline.com/recipes/international/european/british/fresh-lime-and-coconut-cake

Then I sandwich with fresh lime curd, which is another Delia recipe, using lime juice and zest (which I sieve out at the end) instead of lemon:

www.deliaonline.com/recipes/main-ingredient/lemons-limes-and-oranges/lemon-curd

Then cover it all with a coconut buttercream and more dessicated coconut. The Delia cake recipe is fantastic with no additions or substitutions, though. I just like the excuse to go a bit more all out for a birthday cake.
