I forgot to stick the marzipan on the Christmas cake

I made my Christmas cake a couple of weeks ago and decided to roll out the marzipan today. I added it but completely forgot to use apricot jam to stick it to the cake! Is this a disaster? What will happen will the icing fall off

To be safe you'd better remove the marzipan, eat it all, and start again

Completely agree with Ria.

Non-apricot-jammed marzipan can cause toxic results for people who haven’t made the cake. Therefore, for the sake of the health of others, you should eat it.

It does taste amazing (a bit stuck and didn't turn out so I iced it and ate it and lopped off a bit more to even it out).

I take it I'm over worrying about the sticking it down issue though?

I never stick mine on - easier for those who dont want any marzipan or icing to just peel it off.

Whilst my oldest child would totally agree with the first two replies you have recieved (so long as its him eating the removed marzipan) I can testify that in decades of christmas cake making I have NEVER used the apricot jam. It's fine. The icing/marzipan layer may fall off fairly easily once sliced, but it doesnt cause any issues at all.

Thanks all you (a) made me laugh during COVID Christmas prep anxiety and (b) reminded me that I don't have to stick quite so rigidly to Delia's Christmas.
