Can anyone tell me where I can buy chocolate powder that makes a nice hot chocolate - like the one's in coffee shops.

I like Twinnings the best for an instant one, with milk. I also had a charbonnel and walker tin which was probably really expensive but was just flakes of real chocolate and I find them more hassle to make.
hotel chocolat charge a fortune for their hot chocolate velvitiser which people seem to think is worth it...

My favourite one is Sainsburys basics so very very cheap. But it tastes a amazing, gets great reviews. It’s not fancy though.

Ringtons is a really nice instant one

Lidl deluxe salted caramel or chilli hot choc powder. Fantastic. 🌶️🌶️♨️♨️❤️❤️❤️

I like green and blacks - made with milk, preferably whole milk

We all love the Galaxy hot choc, cheap but yummy

dollymoo · 07/12/2020 20:55

The new Galaxy frothy one is beautiful

the pure one in the baking section.
for 1 liter milk I use 3 tablespoons, 1 banana, 1 tablespoon honey.

I use cafe direct Sao Tome. Really good.
Most disappointing - charbonnelle and Walker - the most thin watery I’ve ever had. Ended up putting loads in to try to get it to have flavour - then threw rest away.

Hotel chocolat. It's not cheap but it's amazing! It's proper chocolate and you use milk instead of water.

Cameo Ciobar is very thick like Italian hot chocolate, it’s wonderful!

Clipper drinking chocolate made with milk is really good.

I use this one. Half a mug of warm milk (or single cream if I'm feeling very greedy!) whizzed with my coffee frother stick thing, then about 3 heaped tablespoons of the powder and boiling water to fill the mug (leaving room for a dcenet squirt of extra thick squirty cream though, of course)!

Hotel Chocolat

Cacao powder yummy and good for you too.

Hello1290 · 07/12/2020 22:14

Thank you for all these suggestions - lots to try. I have Charbonnelle and Walker which I made with hot water and it wasn't very nice. It could have been because I didn't use milk though.

Cocoa powder and sugar - you can get no better than that. One v slightly heaped teaspoon of cocoa, one fully heaped teaspoon of sugar. Honestly, nothing else comes close.

MrsKingfisher · 08/12/2020 16:45

Willies hot chocolate, really lovely but you'll need to use milk or plant based alternative not water.

Also agree with cocoa powder so that you can adjust the sweetness and actually taste chocolate.
Never found anything as nice.
