Hi all.

So my mum has facial cancer (her 2nd this year) and basically, she cant eat very well,but she would like to try for christmas. The only way I can think to make the food soft enough for her is to slow cook it and then probably puree it. (She is having a feeding rig fitted on the 16th)

This years christmas dinner isnt going to be all that traditional anyway so we dont mind having slow cooked food.

My mum wants me to do lamb, pork and beef so that she can have a variety of food, tastes etc (again, because this is her 2nd facial cancer - she had most of her jaw removed from the first one - dont smoke - drs have advised that she still try to eat properly so that she doesnt lose muscle in her neck)

I'm thinking a minty lamb but not sure about a christmassy pork?

Any recipes would be great. Any experiences of cancer over christmas would be great too. She starts radiotherapy 21st!

Sorry this is so long!

So sorry to read about your mother @Doublebubblebubble

Just wondered if she or you could get some appropriate advice from the Dietician at the hospital providing her care.
In my experience of working in the NHS, this is just what they should be providing expert guidance on.

@FawnDrench thank you.

I think ive spoken to 20 macmillan nurses this weekend!

She has 2 nutritionists whove been off this weekend and I, like a doughnut, forgot to ask.

They did say no wine or alcohol in the sauce so I know that.

I guess my thinking is wanting to make it as normal as possible for her. Even if she ends up eating everything with her tube, she wants to try a mouthful. I get her for that. She hasnt eaten properly since the beginning of july. Christmas was meant to be a good one this year. She was a cancer survivor for a month and a half.
