Vol au vent cases

There was a thread ages ago about vol au vent cases, and difficulty finding them.

Just thought I would mention that I spotted them in sainsburys in the freezer section.

Mushroom vol au vent anyone? Grin

@RoughWinds FlowersWineFlowersCakeStar

Thank you so much!! Christmas is looking flat enough without a dearth of vol au vents and there were none in Waitrose or M&S. Shall head to Sainsbury's...
(Always do half with prawn in cocktail sauce, rest with egg mayo)

I haven't tried any others, but the Sainsbury's ones last year were awful - tops separated from bottoms, or lop sided cutting. Truly unusable.

Takethewinefromtheswine · 21/11/2020 15:30

Oh bugger, really? I could have a go at doing them myself (premade pastry mind, not that domesticated) maybe...

RoughWinds · 21/11/2020 15:32

They are just roll, not sainsburys own.

I will volunteer to buy some and try them out. Will report back Wink

I do trust a Jusrol product. Appreciate you taking one (box full) for the team, look forward to the results of your research.

In the olden days, when I was a lass, we use to buy sheets of puff pastry and use two different sized pastry cutters to make two circles, and then cut a smaller circle out of the one that goes on top. Glue them together with egg white and stick the circle cut from the middle of the top one to make a little hat to go on top of the vol au vent filling.

Me too. Loved doing it as a child. And then fill them with jam and cream
