I need 6 medium eggs but only have small??

Making a cake - eggs are added into mixture and then beaten rather than beaten first. Should I just use the 6 small eggs and hope for the best? Or weigh out the equivalent of 6 medium eggs in small eggs, and get the right amount that way?

Just use 7 and hope for the best.

Weigh the eggs with shell on.
Use that exact same weight in flour, butter and sugar to make your cake. Fool proof! Not sure if that works with your recipe overall but its an excellent base.

What cake are you making that needs 6 eggs?!

ICanoeCanYou · 18/11/2020 20:32

@HermioneWeasley it’s a cupcake recipe but I’m doubling it to make a three layer cake

Yeah I’d use 7, it should work out about the same in volume.

Where did you get 'small' eggs (and yes i know from a hen)
I've never seen them in a supermarket, are these from your own hens

From google.....In the UK medium eggs are defined as those that weigh (still in their shells) between 53g and 63g and large are those that weigh between 63g and 73g

pinkbalconyrailing · 18/11/2020 20:39

a medium egg is about 60g
how much does a small one weigh?
is a small egg is 50g then 7 small eggs are almost the same weight than 6 medium ones.

ParadiseLaundry · 18/11/2020 20:42

Whichever size eggs I buy they always seem to be 50mls each!

@StealthPolarBear from a local free range chicken farm. Usually get nice large eggs (often double yolkers) but the smaller were all that were left when I went the other day.
