COOK Ready Meals

I'm going away to a cottage in the middle of nowhere for a few days soon and I'm planning to take all my food with me in a cool bag in the car for social distancing etc. As it's a holiday I don't want to do too much cooking so I was considering getting some COOK meals to take for DH and I. Has anyone tried them and are they any good? Otherwise, can anyone recommend some good home delivery food that I can order to take with us?

They're FABULOUS!! I recommend them wholeheartedly. The vegetarian lasagne is particularly delicious.
I have used them in exactly the same circs as you - especially to have something easy to eat upon arrival.

Georgyporky · 27/10/2020 12:44

I've never had them, but Parsley Box ready meals can be kept at ambient temp.
My Father had Oakhouse Foods delivered & he liked them.

Coldhandscoldheart · 27/10/2020 12:47

Yeah, we got some recently & liked them. Aubergine parmigiana (oven v nice), smoked haddock risotto (microwave, not better than I could make myself tbh) Lentil pies, very delicious.

They're lovely, but definitely not cheap.

GroundAlmonds · 27/10/2020 12:49

They are SO good. Do it.

madamy · 27/10/2020 12:50

We did that recently - pork dijon was lovely, kids had mac n cheese and lasagne, both of which were demolished!

YouAndMeAndTheDevilMakesThree · 27/10/2020 12:52

They're great, but as pp said not cheap! Also they arrive frozen so not the easiest to transport. Unless you could get the delivered direct to the cottage just after you arrive?

Pashazade · 27/10/2020 13:11

They're excellent. You can transport them frozen they'll stay that way for a few hours if you have a decent freezer bag and some cold packs. There desserts are also very good. I plan to do exactly this in a few weeks when we are away.

customerisqueen · 27/10/2020 13:37

There a Moroccan Tajine thing that was v good. Lasagne as others have said - both meat and veggie. I'd say they are all good so get what you like sound of. Not cheap but good for the circs you want them for.

BiggerBoat1 · 27/10/2020 13:40

They are delicious. There is a creamy beef thing with brandy that is next level!

KihoBebiluPute · 27/10/2020 13:43

Cook meals are excellent, but we normally arrange a waitrose order and include lots of their ready meals because you need to think about breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks too not just dinners and it's easier to just have the one order to worry about

PompomDahlia · 27/10/2020 14:47

Thanks all. This is reassuring. It's a 2 hour drive, so I'm thinking that they should stay frozen if wrapped very well and packed between ice packs. We're a bit bored of our usual dinners so this seems a good way of having something different but not needing to eat out or shop there.

I'm going to keep breakfasts and lunches simple - I'll take some bake at home baguettes with cheese and butter and packaged soup, and some eggs and bacon and fruit. I might bake a traybake to take with us as well. Then a nice bottle of wine, couple of beers for DH.

A lovely treat. The chicken, ham and leak pie is a serious hit in our house. Lamb tagine is lovely too.

Icequeen01 · 27/10/2020 19:31

I love them! I have used them to cheat at dinner parties and everyone loved them and had no idea they were not homemade!

JemimaTiggywinkle · 27/10/2020 19:34

They are so good... devastated that I no longer live near anywhere that sells them.

JamMakingWannaBe · 27/10/2020 19:40

The Thai seabass one is lovely, and the butternut squash risotto.

Chewbecca · 29/10/2020 11:15

They’re excellent, far better than usual ready meals, which makes sense given their approach and ingredients don’t involve any ‘funny stuff’!
I would use them much more if the price was a little lower. The used to do some everyday, family style meals feeding 2 adults and 2 children for about £10-£12 which were fab but now discontinued.

BaconAndAvocado · 01/11/2020 09:20

The are very very gorgeous. We've used them on holiday and, whilst they aren't cheap, they're a darn sight cheaper than eating out.

They have a Cook shop in Battle. Wish there was one near us!

Fantasisa · 09/11/2020 11:28

I got sent some as a present after having DD and they were the best present I got!
