i just peel it with a normal peeler. you just have to keep going a bit longer than usual

Well, you can do it with a sharp knife but it's hard. Best imo is to roast it in it's skin just cut into chunks. It's delicious!

If you have one of those u-shaped peelers you can peel it with that. To get into it your going to need a big, sharp knife and a lot of elbow grease. It makes very nice soup though!

i normally cut mine up a bit, so bits are smaller and easier to peel, OR you can cook it then peel it. (depending on what you are going to do with it)

i have one ready roasted, it is easy to peel once cooked in oven that dd has just turned her nose up at, shall i send it!

otherwise microwave for a min or two then without burning your fingers peel.

mumblechum · 13/10/2007 19:11

I just don't peel them, but cut them into quarters, scoop the seeds out, put olive oil, salt & pepper on, roast them for 45 mins then scoop the (now soft) flesh out of the skins.

I use the potato peeler... never had a problem... but then I have an industrial stength peeler!

pelvicflawed · 13/10/2007 19:13

Tackled mine today by cuttting it into three big chunks then peeling these - possibly didn't do it the best way but I still have all my fingers - brought the thing a week ago and it sat there until I was brave enough to tackle it!!!

purplelollypop · 13/10/2007 19:13

Ahh, I like the idea of cooking it in the skin. I'm likely to loose some of my fingers if I carry on as I was!

Right, giving it a go in the microwave. Thanks everyone, wish me luck!

here's how i do it:

first cut into large round slices, as if you were slicing a cucumber. Take each slice and with a paring knife remove the skin in one motion, working around the slice.

I use my potato peeler. It's a "Good Grips" one from John Lewis. Peels butternut squash and everything else really easy - have never had a problem peeling butternut squash.

i have 2 peelers... one is normal and another (im preety sure is a 40p asda msart price one) is very sharp

I use the very sharp one and its fine
