Gnocchi

Gnocchi and chicken Kiev (from butcher not frozen processed type) for dinner

I have cooked gnocchi before but only boiled and DH didn't like it, though he's previously said he likes gnocchi!

How best to cook it? I'm thinking pan fry but do I also boil first. It's the "fresh" kind from supermarket fresh pasta section.

Also what to serve with a breaded Kiev and gnocchi. Green beans, tender stem broccoli and asparagus sound good but I don't think I have any.

I probably have cabbage and carrots along with baked beans and marrow fat peas

Excellent!

Looks great!

EatPrayYoga · 14/10/2020 20:20

Thanks all

I could have put a bit more effort into a nice photo but it was very nice and even DH was happy with it despite not wanting gnocchi and not liking mushrooms

I boil, mix in tomato sauce and spinach, cover with cheese and grill. Bit boring but does a meal!

Ooh that looks good OP!

That looks lovely glad you and husband enjoyed it.

never bother with boiling them unless you want to serve them with tomato sauce.
just fried in butter will do. crispy outside, soft inside.

Thank you everyone.

He particularly liked that it was something "different"

I enjoyed the gnocchi bit would maybe have it with something different next time. I'm tempted by the skillet and oven recipes but worry they'd be slimy.

I bought a pan fry one that was filled with pumpkin from the fresh section in Sainsbury’s, it was lovely. I normally buy the ones you boil and I like to cook them by adding to homemade chicken soup for a few minutes before serving, sort of like little dumplings. I only like the fresh gnocchi.

The one I got was Morrison's fresh from the fresh (refrigerator) pasta section

Boiled gnocchi is much nicer, doesn't take that long.. Chuck it with some butter, pancetta, peas and cheese after so it's coated, either Parmesan or padano. Lovely Grin
