help - where can I get Sara Lee / Pillsbury chilled croissant dough?

Sorry, I know that wasn't the most rivetting subject title in the world...!!

I can't get my hands on this croissant dough anywhere in my home town (Edinburgh). All the supermarkets seem to have stopped stocking it.

It is stored in the chiller section of the supermarkets, comes in a cardboard tube, and when you open the tube, you get a rectangle of pre-rolled pastry, marked with perforated triangles.

In truth, if you make croissants out of the pastry, it's pretty revolting! But if you use it to do one of the those Pampered Chef recipes where you lay the pastry triangles out like a sun, daub tasty mixture on it, tuck in the triangle points, then bake....... then it is deeply hummy, quick 'n' easy as pie to do - but makes you feel most goddess like in the process (except for the waistline...).

Has anybody managed to buy any recently - and from where?

hope someone can help!

i am quite a way south from Edinburgh though ...

...ahem, when I said hummy I meant yummy (perhaps hummy if you use ripe camembert....)

I got some around 2 weeks ago, from tesco inverness. was told that morrisons also stock it.

have you got a recipe for the pampered chef thingy? tried it at a party and it was scrummy.

thanks very much for the super speedy response, RubyShivers. Alas, my Sainsbury has only got the Pain au Chocolat one.

This is my first ever message on Mumsnet - can't believe there was a response within minutes! What an amazing network.

Anyone bought it anywhere other than Sainsbury?

hi, Flier
None of the Tesco's in Edinburgh have it and Morrisons in Edinburgh have discontinued it. Curiously infuriating!

Yes, I shall send you the link for the recipe - agree it's very tasty!

Any advance on Sainsbury, Tesco, Morrisons?!

Hi, Flier

here is a link to a whole heap of Pampered Chef recipes that I stumbled across on the web. You have to trawl to the very bottom to find the recipes, then search for anything that ends with 'ring' or 'wreath'.

I think, once you've tried a few, you could pretty much make up anything, as long as the consistency was about right (ie, not to liquidy)

Our Aldis sell it. Dont know if thats any help to you in Edinburgh though

I don't think I've seen the Pillsbury brand, but our local Sainsbury's stocks a few 'pop 'n fresh' products. They keep it in the butter aisle. You definitely don't ge the same range here as you would in the US, but then again, you are saving yourself from a lot of grease and salt.
