Best ever Christmas pudding recipe?

BrassicaBabe · 12/10/2020 18:55

I've never made a Christmas pudding before. Fancy doing it this year. Maybe even making an extra one or two as presents. What is the recipe that can become my new every year tradition? Needs to be at least based in a traditional Christmas pudding but happy too if it includes a little twist. Grin
TIA

Darina Allen’s is very good.

Also consider using a slow cooker. Just park it in a corner somewhere and let it do its thing for 7 hours. No need to stay home or keep supervising. I keep the extra batter in the fridge and make the second one the next day.

I've only made it a couple of times but I made Nigella's recipe one year and it was the nicest Christmas pudding I've ever had and it converted a 35 year old Christmas pudding avoider so it must be pretty good!

Cost a fortune to make though...

I've only ever used Delia Smith's recipe. Clear, always works, excellent results. I second the idea of steaming it in a slow cooker. I re-heat ours on Christmas Day in the slow cooker as well.

I've always used the Delia one and it's come out lovely. You used to be able to borrow a fish kettle from Waitrose (the same way you borrow glasses for parties) so I would do that and could steam 4 on the hob at one time. Not sure if they're still doing though.
