Does it matter that I didn’t peel the apples?

I chopped and froze a load of apples the other day with the intention of baking a crumble or cake or something with them at some point. But all the recipes I’ve looked at want peeled apples, and these still have their skins on.

Will it be horrible if I make an apple cake with skin-on apples? Or is there a recipe that particularly suits apples with skin? I’ve just been blackberry picking and was looking forward to making something!

I think it would be preferable to make crumble with peeled apples but in theory there's no reason why you can't leave the apple skin on. You'll end up with chewy bits in your crumble though as the skin won't go soft in the same way as the baked apple.

No reason why you can't trim the peel off the apples if you defrost them before baking with them though.

Haha I was afraid of having to cut the bits of skin off piece by piece, I chopped them into quite small chunks! I suppose it would be worth it if it actually makes the finished product nice to eat though.

Might not try and rush a cake out in my lunch hour in that case though...

You will have to cook and sieve them and use as a sauce

Apple crumble is fine with the skin on. I wouldn't have a problem with the others either

I made a crumble the other day. It said to keep the skin on if you wanted a rustic feel so I'm sure itl be fine

I always keep the skin on for apple crumble, I prefer it that way.

It does depend a bit on the variety of apple, though, some are definitely thicker than others.

Oh amazing! That’s great to hear that it’s not going to necessarily ruin things. Also a good idea on sieving and making apple sauce, that’s something I hadn’t thought of. Thank you for your help!
