Which water filter do you recommend?

I hope this is the right place to post this question - it seemed more relevant to this section that anywhere else!

I have a Brita water filter and with each new filter I have to run water through it lots and lots of times before the water stops tasting horrible. It would be great not to have to do this! Can anyone recommend a filter where the water tastes nice straight away, please?!

Is there something wrong with your tap water?

MilkRunningOutAgain · 23/09/2020 16:03

I use Brita too, and have the same issue. We are not on mains water and water from the tap is sometimes visibly cloudy so I always filter. We also have guinea pigs and they are supposed to have filtered water. Sorry OP, can’t really help but feel your pain.

Thanks for empathising! I’ll let you know if I find a filter that doesn’t have this problem!

Do you soak the filter first? I soak mine for 10 mins, rinse, then do 2 jugs before drinking. (Brita jug with Tesco or Wilko filters)

@Bygone I had never thought of soaking the filter! I’ll try that - thank you!

My Tesco & Wilko filters say on the instructions to soak them, its to get the air bubbles out mainly.

My water always tastes really lovely on the first pour, after the soak, it then says rinse for 2 mins (I do it for about 30 seconds)

Have you been filling the jug twice and discarding before the first drink?

I think your water will be spot on from now Star

Tesco's water filter is pretty good. We have a Brita one as well which is ancient. I prefer the Tesco one as it is easier to refill, filters more quickly and jug and filters are at least half the price.

Thank you for the replies! Think I’ll try the Tesco one!

I have been filling the jug at least 20 times after changing the filter before the water starts tasting ok!

You know they do universal filters now OP?

So the Wilko, Tesco etc will fit in the Brita jug.

I did not know that! Thanks! Smile
