Best way to get ride of cooking smells?

I've rediscovered my love of fish and the kids really are now at an age where they can like it or lump it but it does make the house smell. What do you do, other than open a window, which I find has limited effect?

Light a candle before you even unwrap the fish.
Wash everything as you go.

Buy an Aga

Any sort of candle will do.
Smelly ones help mask the smell but just a flame really seems to help with any cooking odours. DDad used to swear by church candles.
