my nine month old has stopped eating!

My nine month old has recently started refusing food having previously been fine. He eats well at nursery but not with me and then wakes hungry in the night. I haven't increased his milk (he has about a pint a day, sometimes less) because I don't want him to substitute milk for food. I'm trying to be relaxed about it and not make food an issue with him but it's beginning to drive me nuts. Any ideas?

untill the age of one, solid food is intended only to supplement their milk intake, so don't panic. As long as you are offering food and plenty of milk and water, and he's happy just relax. My ds used to eat 3 small meals a day with us from about 10 mths or so for a week and then would only be interested in Breastmilk for the next week. It was only when he reached about 13 mths that he really started wanting his food, and he's not a small chap, he's hefty.

Food and not eating is something they can control even from an early age, just let him play with it, offer bits etc. It difficult though isn't it?

bump..for you...

Agree with yummybunny. There will be days and weeks when they just don't eat and the less fuss from you the better. Just ride out the storm and in a few weeks things will change AGAIN. I have days when my 2 and 1 year old won't touch a thing but amazingly they are still growing and developing well. They don't need a lot of food. I've been told their bellies are the size of their fists. Just try not to get too upset about it and let him take it at his own pace. If he's eating at nursery then you can console yourself with that fact.
