Was today’s food low carb?

Breakfast - strawberries and Greek yogurt
Lunch - a slice of high protein bread and a small piece of cheese
Dinner - roast chicken, 1 roast potato (couldn’t resist!), broccoli, carrots and white cabbage.

I’m trialling a low carb (I usually have several pieces of bread a day, and lots of potato, etc). Is this low, or average?

Not low carb by my app, but I dont know your height/weight or what you are trying to stick to? What do YOU consider low carb OP???

I used carb manager app. There are options for both keto diet and low carb. You input the data and was a life saver for me to work out my carbs when I did a keto diet.

Thank you for your reply.
I’m 5’6 and currently 71kg. I’ve put about 10kg over the year so am just watching what I eat, more than anything, and trying to avoid the ‘carb stodgy’.

What are the carbs that you’re looking at ?

I'm not great at low carb but arent carrots high carb

lljkk · 30/08/2020 22:11

Depends on portion sizes but it sounds low cal if not low carb.

HollowTalk · 30/08/2020 22:13

It's obviously lower carb than you're used to but I think it's easier to cut out bread and potatoes altogether rather than limit yourself.

londongirl12 · 30/08/2020 22:34

There's carbs in all veg. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't be eating them. You lose weight by eating less calories than you burn. It's science. You're better off tracking your calories.

Sairafina · 31/08/2020 00:07

Based on rough calculations (and not knowing your portion sizes)

Strawberries - 8g
Greek yoghurt - 6g
Bread - 15g
50g Roast potato - 9g net carbs
50g Broccoli - 2g net carbs
50g Carrots - 3.5g net carbs

Low carb is usually capped at 50g of carbs per day and you are at 43.5 so yes, technically, this would be low carb

I'd be more concerned that it doesn't seem like much food at all calorie wise - were you hungry?

ToadCandle · 31/08/2020 00:10

@Sairafina no, I’m not a big eater and felt fine. Saying that I’ve just had a glass of white wine and a celery stick with peanut butter 😬

Very not low carb!

londongirl12 · 31/08/2020 10:07

Alcohol is full of carbs!!

Sairafina · 31/08/2020 12:41

The wine will have definitely tipped you over! The key to success with keto/low carb is to plan plan plan.

lljkk · 31/08/2020 17:51

This says that 50 grams of broccoli would be 3.3 grams... I dunno what "net carbs" are, though.

lljkk · 31/08/2020 17:51

It’s an American term. They deduct fibre from carbs to give net carbs.
