Beige Buffet

Hi all, I’m planning a ‘beige buffet’ for my birthday party at the end of the month. I know it sounds tacky but I’m planning to make as much as I can myself. Not in the UK, so I’m really missing a beige buffet for any and every family do, birthdays, funerals even.
I’m planning to make the following:
Sausage rolls (pork, apple, sage)
Scotch eggs
Triangle sandwiches (tuna, egg and cress, cheese and onion )
Open faced sandwiches on half a bun/bap (salmon and cucumber)
Cheese and pineapple hedgehog (best cheddar I can get here and fresh pineapple)
I’ll do a charcuterie board (with cheese, meats, pickles. Chutneys, baguette and crackers), but is there anything else you can think of that’d be nice ? And beige ;)
I’m thinking a homemade guacamole to go with some chips too.

Quiche, either individual or large cut into slices. Pork pies. Cocktail sausages.

lobsteroll · 14/08/2020 04:29

If you're not in the UK don't suppose you can get pork pies?

Love a beige buffet!

I'd add cheddar and silver skin onions on sticks too.

Vol au vents? Quiche?

Hyperfish101 · 14/08/2020 04:36

Is this a thing? I have never heard of a beige buffet.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 14/08/2020 04:39

Chicken nuggets
Pizza
Crisps

PrincessGeorge · 14/08/2020 04:50

No we can’t get pork pies, and I’ve never tried making the pastry for them so will chicken out on that one !
Mini quiches sound great ! I could do a feta/spinach or something so that it’s another veggie choice.
@Hyperfish101 beige buffets are most definitely a thing !!! How have you never had one? They’re amazing (I’m planning to do all homemade so a bit posh, but even if it’s just Iceland frozen stuff they’re awesome!)

@lobsteroll I love vol au vents but not sure how to make the fillings. Is it basically thick white sauce with something stirred in ? (Thinking chicken and tarragon could be a nice flavour ?)

What is a beige buffet?

TomNook · 14/08/2020 04:59

What are you on about

HollyBollyBooBoo · 14/08/2020 06:02

Love a beige buffet and was delighted when my DD asked for one at her birthday sleepover. The only thing we can add to your fab list is crisps!

ShaunaTheSheep · 14/08/2020 06:30

Samosas
Mini Chicken satay kebabs
Onion bhajis

Mintjulia · 14/08/2020 06:33

Those little pastry twists, like cheese straws only with Gentleman’s Relish in them....if Gentleman’s Relish still exists.Smile

Marmite27 · 14/08/2020 06:34

Chicken nuggets, Indian snacks, pizza.

Starbonnet123 · 14/08/2020 06:44

@PrincessGeorge love a beige buffet . we always make vol au vonts with Campbell's condensed soup ,it's ace if you can get it . My kids love mushroom ones . We fry mushrooms cool and mix with the soup . My mum always did prawn with finely chopped prawns and Marie Rose sauce .

thisstooshallpass · 14/08/2020 07:03

Beige buffet = beige food.

Those asking, you don't know what beige food is?

Apolloanddaphne · 14/08/2020 07:05

Definitely crisps.

Dozer · 14/08/2020 07:09

Are your friends likely to eat much? I ask because making those things from scratch will be a lot of time and effort. My local friends/acquaintances probably wouldn’t eat it, eg health/weight conscious, so wouldn’t be worth the effort!

mantlepiece · 14/08/2020 07:12

Your hedgehog needs mini hot dog sausages on sticks as well, wow factor!

@Hyperfish101

Is this a thing? I have never heard of a beige buffet.
Neither have I. What is the attraction?
Palestrina20 · 14/08/2020 07:21

I absolutely love a beige buffet. Keep promising I'll make a mini one for myself

FredaFrogspawn · 14/08/2020 07:26

I thought buffets in the time of corona were generally not a good idea?

BarkingHat · 14/08/2020 07:31

How can you not have heard of a beige buffet. Engagement parties in church halls in the 90s were all beige buffets. My work has a quiz in the local legion club once a year. Biggest beige buffet ever, and no truck with ant greenery at all, no pineapple, no quarter cut tomatoes.

Yards of pasties though. Rough puff pastry to make a pasty is easy.

evilharpy · 14/08/2020 08:00

I have never heard of this but I want to go t a beige buffet now!

You need something sweet. Scones, cupcakes (uniced to keep them beige), profiteroles?

CaptainMyCaptain · 14/08/2020 08:43

How can you not have heard of a beige buffet.

All the buffets I have ever been to have involved colourful salads and fruit salad. Beige buffet sounds like pure stodge. Casting my mind back to the 70s there might have been the odd buffet consisting of sausage rolls, sandwiches and pork pie but I thought they were just cheap and unimaginative not a 'thing'.

BuffaloCauliflower · 14/08/2020 08:47

This sounds wonderful! Definitely quiche but do a big one and cut it up, don’t make little ones (I make a lot of quiche and the smaller they are the faffier they are!)

Vol au vents are super easy, filling can be anything really but I’ve never used a white sauce. Cream cheese, salmon and chive just all mixed up, tuna mayo, Humous and red pepper, anything you can think of really

Roussette · 14/08/2020 08:53

What about tortilla?

Easy to make and feeds lots!

Best freshly cooked, doesn't need to be hot to eat.

I've used this Jamie oliver recipe
