What to eat with cold sausages?

We're heading to the beach this evening and I'll cook up some sausages to take, but what can we eat with them? Cold pasta has been vetoed... It's a 30min car journey so anything hot will cool down.

Mix of salads:

Potato salad
Tomato and balsamic dressing
Green salad with avocado
Maybe some crusty bread?

Misty9 · 12/08/2020 15:59

Ooh that all sounds lovely to me. Sadly my 6 and 8yo wouldn't eat them... I wondered about baked potatoes, wrapped in foil to keep them warm?

Cucumber, peppers, babybels in our house Smile

Red pepper hummus

Dollywilde · 12/08/2020 16:01

Ah hadn’t realised little palates to appease Grin baked potatoes sound like a great idea, to be honest if it’s as warm where you are as it is for me, things won’t cool much in half an hour!

Crusty bread with salted butter and baby tomatoes.

cringeworthit · 12/08/2020 16:05

Warm new potato salad. Chop them up small enough and they fit into a flask. Smile

This is making my stomach rumble! Grin a wrap has been given the nod but I'm going to make a lovely potato salad for me. Boring children

Sausage sandwich with sauce (brown or red as you please) 😋

AdaColeman · 12/08/2020 16:07

Sausage sandwiches/rolls with pickles, gherkins, mustard for the grown ups.
Bags of crisps, hard boiled eggs, radishes.
Chips from a chip shop.
Who needs anything fancy with sausages at an evening beach trip!

But if you must....
Chop them up & add to Russian salad.

Chippy chips is a good idea. I'm not after fancy - just something that my kids will eat and that fills them up so they don't spend the whole time asking for more food! I'm hungry now though...!

i think the only think other than the sausage sarnie would be to cook more sausages.....cook alllllll the sausages.

ginsparkles · 12/08/2020 16:18

I have a super fussy eater so would keep it simple, some bread to make sandwiches, some crisps, cucumber sticks and a pudding! I'd probably pack some olives and feta or salad type thing for the less fussy grown ups!

They won't eat bread... 🤦‍♀️ And we ate a LOT of crisps earlier! Feeding the youngest in particular is the bane of my life...

@Misty9 I feel your pain! I would make a random picnic of the things youngest will eat and add some yummy extras for the rest of you. Day at the beach should be fun, so just take what you know they'll eat.

Misty9 · 12/08/2020 18:08

Thanks all. This is what I did: sausages, tomatoes in balsamic dressing and yuy potato salad for me. Boring dry sausage wraps for them Grin

I think it would be suitable:
tomatoes, cucumbers, avocado, green salad, bread.

Have a great trip!

A nice cool, crisp white. The DCs will drive back.
