Hello, I was wondering if anyone had any vegan, tomato-free sauce ideas either for pasta or couscous (it's for camping so the idea is to cook in bulk at home, freeze and reheat on camping stove).

I was thinking lentil/soya mince bolognese-type sauce, but it's really hard to find a recipe with no tomatoes! Rather than vegan, it's more dairy-free as fish is ok (but not shellfish).

Thanks in advance!

Sacla makes the best vegan pesto www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/Product/sacla-freefrom-basil-pesto-190g

And I also love their artichoke pasta sauce www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/305041686

I do this lentil dahl www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/spinach-sweet-potato-lentil-dhal which can be frozen and doesn’t need an accompaniment because it’s got potatoes in to add carbohydrate.

This is more of a sauce, and I’d serve it with microwave rice or frozen mash www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/baked-potatoes-spicy-dhal

Mackrel fillets in olive oil or tikka with couscous salad
Vegan mayo with tuna pasta
Cream cheese with pasta and prawn linguine. Nice with lemon zest and freshly cracked black peppper
Avocado pesto
Nooch and cashew sauce
Katsu curry sauce
I used to like tahini, nooch and pasta. I imagine it would be nice with roasted veg or grilled pappere (jar) and aubergines
Hummus also works.
Simple good quality extra virgin olive oil, chili flakes nice with pasta

No recipes as im an eyeballer but you can easily google them.

I quite like smash. Some brands are better than others so check ingredients. I like a peanut butter satay type of stiryfry which you could serve with thin rice noodles that take no time to cook in hot water. Peanut butter doesnt need refrugeration and you could use a fresh or frozen bag of stirfry veg.

Thanks everyone!

@ShadylilFocker how do you make the peanut butter satay stirfry?

A proper bolognaise uses red wine instead of tomatoes - try that?
