I’m making the Epic salad from BBC Good Food and I’ve got new potatoes from the allotment.
I did a salmon in the oven last week on the steam function and it was delicious so I’m going to do that too but I’d like to tart it up a bit as we have guests.
And because the salmon does smell out the kitchen when I steam cook it, I’ll do it earlier in the day and serve it cold.
I’m thinking prawns, maybe some crab but it all sounds a tad safe and unadventurous so any ideas to jazz it up a bit please?

TIA

Oh OP. My favourite!

Clams, mussels, langoustines squid.... All of these are amazing. I actually prefer shellfish to standard fish. Or you could go big and look at crab or lobster..

Not sure if it's in season but samphire is amazing with seafood.

Our local fishmonger actually makes platters that are ready to serve. You could do that if you’re feeling lazy?

You could make your own mayonnaise and cocktail sauce with fresh horseradish - that would be special!

This paté served with this pickle and melba toast is delicious.

Do they all like seafood?

Do you not think the op will know if her guests like seafood or not?

Breaded prawns with sweet chilli dip

Too late now, and I hope the night went well, but some other ideas for next time:

-Salt and pepper calamari

  • Vietnamese summer rolls with a satay sauce for a vegan/gluten free/light alternative entree/canape
  • Sushi (I did a yo sushi course last year and just made a batch and it was quicker and easier than I though! Delicious too)
  • Smoked mackerel pate on blinis or crackers

Lots of crushed ice, samphire, lemon wedges galore

Thank you all very much for the extra ideas.

Pomegranatemolasses - I'm definitely going to try those two for another time - thank you.
Elouera - DS would like to learn how to make Sushi. Would you recommend the course?
DameXanaduBramble - guess what I find in the fridge as I was putting the leftovers away last night? My guests were too polite to ask for lemon Grin
