Hi can anyone recommend where I can get good value vanilla extract from, or do I need to just buy from supermarket?

I got some really nice Madagascan extract just from Waitrose.

Thanks, I don't normally shop at waitrose but il have a look, I usually buy from lake land, but it is so expensive.

I had success with a Kosher brand from Sainsburys. I don't remember the exact name but it was In the standard baking section. 😊

It's is expensive, everywhere. Sainsbury's sell it.

I know it's expensive, just wondered if there was any non branded that is just as good but cheaper.

Sainsburys have their own brand taste they difference one which is the most reasonably priced I've found that is extract not essence. They also have the fancy ones but this one works just as well and is much better priced

Thanks, I go to sainsburys occasionally so will have a look.

If you want a large quantity it can be worth making your own. Buy a pack of 5 pods from Madagascar on ebay for about £10, plus a bottle of supermarket vodka.

Slit at least 3 pods lengthways and scrape out the seeds with a knife tip. Bung the pods and seeds into the vodka bottle and put it in a dark cupboard. Shake it when you remember. Six weeks later you will have a dark luscious extract. Glorious stuff with no chemical after-tang.
You can strain it but I just leave the debris in and pour carefully.

Oh that sounds like a great idea, will definately do that.
