How to stop chocolate chips sinking to bottom

My friend passed on to me Mary Berry's banana bread (there are several versions, this one has two bananas and 2tbsp milk). It's yummy but I wanted to add chocolate bits and even though the batter is quite thick and I add them after I have poured it into the tin and only mix gently they sink to the bottom. Is there some trick to making the chips more evenly distributed? I am breaking up a bar of chocolate rather than using premade chips. I also would like to add nuts, which I guess are lighter and may not sink?

Roll them in flour first

yep, as above, put a small amount of flour in a bowl and coat the chips before you add them.
