cauliflower cheese goes really well with pork and also toad in the hole. Corn on the cob my kids love with most everyday dinners (I think its that they get to eat it with their hands). Roast parnsnip with roast dinner, yum!! asparagus is really yummy, but not sure what you would serve it with.

We started getting a veg box for exactly this reason.
Dark green cabbages are yum, kale, swede mashed with the carrots and butter. We have things I had never heard of like Kohl-rabi etc (which tastes a bit like brocolli stalk). Turnips, butternut squash (overrated tho IMO), hmmmmm

Roasted mediteranean vegs like onion, courgette, aubergine, tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms.....

Sweet potatoe???

Skyler · 25/09/2007 21:01

potatoes, that should be.....

Tonight i did red cabbage, onion and apple sweated in pan with olive oil and balsamic vinegar thanks to jamie oliver. It was fab and all the family gobbled it up.

Also carrots, parsnips, courgettes boiled or roasted.

Leeks sweated in butter, or made into a white sauce.

Corn on the cob is always fun for children to eat.

Then of course theres baby corn on the cob, and mange tout.

have thought that about veg boxes but would be a waste of money I think with my boys. DS1 doesn't like anything "wet" - so stuff in a sauce is no god for them.

Maybe I should try one new veg a week and make a journey of discover?!

discovery obviously

Tommy · 25/09/2007 21:51

The good thing with little kids is usually that anything can go on a plate together - so you could put mangetout and sweet potato and cabbage together and they wouldn't say "Hmmm - your vegetables aren't from the same cuisine" John Torrode/ Gregg Wallace style!
I like to steam green beans or edamame as it is good finger food, as are any baby veg like baby corn, and indeed any veg that you cut in to fingers.
Try making baked sweet potato wedges, and any type of squash/gourd is fantastic.

good point shrooms.

I can put anything on the plate - DS1 doesn't like anything to be touching anything else though.....
