Blind Baking - I've cocked up!

I put the pastry into the dish and chucked the dried rice on top and bunged it in the oven. Now I can't get all the rice out. Blush

I know I should have put the baking parchment on top of the pastry and then the rice on top, that's what I normally do. I just wasn't thinking.

I'm leaving it to cool but how will I get all the dried rice out before I add the filling?

I'm making a cheese and onion quiche but it will be ruined if someone bites into bits of dried rice. My DH has been unwell so I was making this to cheer him up as it's one of his favourites. Shock

Any tips for getting all the rice bits out?

I don’t think you can....

Might be worth seeing if you can ping them off with a knife?

If it makes you feel any better I had a similar mindless moment except mine was with beans which was easier to recover from. The rice has to come out, you have a choice of binning it and pretending it never happened or lifting each grain out with a cocktail stick.

I did exactly the same thing years ago, haven't tried blind baking again.

I used a fork to lightly scrape over the surface and I think I got about 95% of the grains out. The odd one was buried in the pastry.
I went ahead and made the quiche and it tasted fine.
I didn't mention the rice and no-one commented so I don't think they tasted them. Grin
