Chocolate cake that’s not dark chocolate

So I just found out that the cafe that sells my favourite chocolate cake has gone out of business. It’s been selling this cake for years (has its own bakery that has also gone). Trying to find a recipe for a chocolate madeira cake with chocolate buttercream icing (as it’s described on their website) that comes close to it. It’s not one is those really dark chocolatye ones, it’s more like a milk chocolate cake if that makes any sense? Will try to upload a pic of it if I can. Would welcome any suggestions for recipes please!

Icing like this might work
I have a cake recipie that is 3eggs, 6oz sugar, 6oz butter, 6oz of SR flour and 2oz of melted chocolate folded in at the last minuite. Might that give you the flavour you are after? If you want a heavier, more Maderia type cake, add an extra oz of flour?

Bero milk chocolate cake might work?

This isn't too dark and although it says it's a traybake we've done it as a sandwich a few times.

I swear by these-
Chocolate cake
Buttercream
Both use milk chocolate and little bit of cocoa

That cake looks excellent. More like icing with a bit of cake between the layers though ??

LucyFox · 06/06/2020 19:47

Try the bero milk chocolate cake - sounds similar to what you want

Thanks, I will try the Be-ro cake. And will try the buttercream recipe CatToddlerUprising posted.
HeronLanyon, you’re absolutely right, it’s a little bit of cake in between huge slabs of icing 😋 It’s probably not the most moist cake in the world so I think it does need lots of icing!
