Best Toaster

SheSnoopsToConquer · 05/06/2020 08:27

Our toaster has started to play up so it may stop working completely very shortly.

It is our 20th wedding anniversary next month so I could treat myself to a lovely new one.

Which are the best brands?

Smeg?
Dualit?
Kitchenaid?
Magimix?

I know that they are expensive (it’s just a toaster after all) but we can’t have a big family party at the moment so something lovelybdir the kitchen might be a little bit of a treat instead.

Thanks

I have a lovely De Longhi one. We’ve had it for 10 years and it still looks/works like new.

Thank you for replying. Is it a a 2 or a 4 slice toaster?

When Which? test toasters they don't always find that spending a lot gets you better toast. Check the slots are deep or long enough if you use a breadmaker. The Dualit toasters I have looked in the past at would not suit. Our toaster: from Asda, cost about £12, works very well! Not what you had in mind, I know.

Our Dualit has lasted ages and ages and still does perfect toast. I reckon it’s value for money given how long we’ve had it and how often we toast stuff!

I once measured toaster slots at John Lewis. Yes, I know! Life was simpler then. I would have loved a Dualit but when I checked I could see that our breadmaker bread would be poking out of the top of the slot by some distance. If your slices are more or less square I'm sure one would be fine. Or maybe they've been redesigned since then.

Dualit

I once destroyed a wall accidentally with a Dualit. I stayed overnight with a friend, made some toast and the next thing I knew there was a small fire coming from the wall socket. My friend then said that she’d forgotten to tell me that the timer had gone and the toast didn’t pop up automatically any more. It was a rented house as well Blush

Dualit. We’ve had ours for almost 20 years with more than daily use with no issues.

Sorry, I don’t know how to do a proper link from my phone Hmm

Square slots drive me potty. I like a two slot long toaster so you can do anything including pittas etc.
My current kenwood is great and was not silly money.

I really wish I had not replaced my old classic Dualit as the new one is nowhere near as well made and sheds crumbs everywhere. At £100 plus I do not recommend.

weepingwillow22 · 08/06/2020 19:11

We have a 10 year old dualit and other than the longitivity I have not been very impressed. It toasts unevenly, bread sticks out of the top, crumbs go everywhere and the metal is rusting.

Mustbetimeforachange · 08/06/2020 19:13

Dualit - 15+ years without a whimper.

PearlHeart3 · 08/06/2020 19:19

I recently purchased a Daewoo toaster. Apart from having a glass front so you can see your bread as it toasts (novelty) it works really well. It's longer than most toasters and although it only holds 2 slices, because it's one slot, you can toast pita bread lengthways as a PP suggested. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01LYI70ON?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

I have a 4 slice classic dualit - 8 years old - the timer went and I ordered a replacement part and did it myself. Love it and hope to get many more years from it

Lunaballoon · 15/06/2020 19:44

Another vote for Dualit. Perfect toast every time.

Iamamadeupname · 16/06/2020 08:35

Dualit- 15 years and still going.

FawnDrench · 16/06/2020 19:31

Russell Hobbs 4-slice.
Just works perfectly and toasts evenly, (and has several additional functions which we've never even used) very reliable -still going strong after15 years
