Carb lite breakfast - no eggs/fish

For various reasons, I would like to try a carb-lite breakfast. Overall, I'm keen to reduce carbs and have been doing this generally quite effectively for a while. However, my stomach often gets upset in the mornings, and certain carbs definitely affect this - eg I've stopped even trying to each porridge or similar.

BUT.... I can't eat eggs (not an allergy, but my stomach does not like them), and the thought of things like smoked salmon/mackerel or large amounts of bacon first thing in in the morning does not appeal.

So what can I have?

I had berries and yoghurt the other day (yes, not entirely carb free, I know) and that worked quite well and certainly my stomach liked it. But I know it's not something I could eat daily.

I sometimes have a small slice of toast with cheese which also seems to be low enough carb to not impact my stomach too much but again, the thought of that more than once or twice a week is unappealing.

Please give me some ideas?

Peanut butter and banana smoothie
Mango and coconut smoothie
Scrambled tofu realfood.tesco.com/recipes/tofu-scramble-with-kale-and-roasted-mushrooms.html
Avocados with cottage cheese

Have you tried this bread? www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/hovis-lower-carb-deliciously-seeded-400g

GrIlled tomatoes and field mushrooms topped with cheese then grilled on a bed of spinach.

BeneathTheMilkyTwilight · 31/05/2020 13:13

I have nuts and seeds with yogurt and fruit, or a few vegan sausages with a grilled flat mushroom and some wilted spinach.

Thanks all. I do smoothies now and again but don't find them very satisfying. Will look at that bread, thanks.

I do like the idea of grilled tomatoes/mushrooms and spinach. That feels like a good idea, thank you.

Have also been thinking about avo. So that's a good suggestion. Thanks all. This feels like a good start.

Bacon, mushroom spinach is popular here

Iamblossom · 31/05/2020 13:58

Why can't you have yoghurt with berries daily ? I do

Gunpowder · 31/05/2020 14:00

One of the cars local to me does courgette Rosti, grilled tomatoes and mushrooms topped with a couple of slices of fried halloumi.

Gunpowder · 31/05/2020 14:01

Cars = cafes

Juanmorebeer · 31/05/2020 14:10

I'd base it around mushrooms if you want something savoury.

To mix up your smoothies rather than drinking them you can do a smoothie bowl topped with nuts/seeds etc. I put freeze-dried fruit on mine and they are so good.

Low carb fruits Berries/Melon.

Melon and parma ham????

Juanmorebeer · 31/05/2020 14:11

Avocado, grilled tomatoes and halloumi

JessicaDay · 31/05/2020 14:11

Paleo granola- basically a grain free mix of nuts, seeds, dried fruit
amazon.co.uk/s?k=Paleo+granola&ref=nb_sb_noss_2 Some options here)
A brownie like this

I make those brownies for DH, they’re pretty quick and easy, keep for about a week in the fridge and freeze well.

For breakfast he adds some coconut yoghurt, sparkling of normal or paleo granola (normal if he wants a few extra carbs), and sometimes some fresh fruit.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 31/05/2020 14:11

I use wafer thin ham instead of bacon, have it with tinned or grilled tomatoes and mushrooms you can crisp it very very quickly in a pan to get a baconish but lighter texture and taste.

JessicaDay · 31/05/2020 14:11

Pops, link fail

dudsville · 31/05/2020 14:15

I like cottage cheese with an apple and or tangerine type fruit. That and some almonds and walnuts is filling and easy.

BlingLoving · 31/05/2020 14:19

Thanks again all. Lots of ideas I'll try.

@lamblossom - I've never been the kind of person who can cope with the same breakfast every day. Pre stomach issues, I was one of those people who would have porridge one day, pastry another, scrambled egg the next, beans on toast the next etc etc.

Plus, I don't really love berries and yoghurt!

Avocado with seeds and roasted tomatoes

Baked beans with mushrooms

Sweet corn fritters (not carb free but low in carb assuming)

Ooh melon and Parma ham is a good one @Juanmorebeer

Iamblossom · 31/05/2020 15:33

Fair enough. I am on the other hand am deadly boring when it comes to food and eat basically the same thing every day. I only eat different evening meals because DH is in charge of those 😉
