We had a lovely greek themed dinner this week with lots of lovely meze dishes. Before the weather turns next week, I am thinking about a spanish theme.

Any unusual ideas for tapas style food?

Do you have jose pizarro's recipe book? it's great for this.

I love a goats cheese in honey. His version includes fried beetroot slices on the side which is amazing (but basically, it's goats cheese, cooked, then covered in honey. AMAZING).

Chorizo obviously always goes down well. We like to do ours fried with slices of red pepper and a splash of red wine to make a sauce.

Some kind of bean stew is always good, preferably made with pork belly (But, full disclosure, I don't make this myself as DH isn't a big pork belly fan. It's the first thing I order when I'm eating at a spanish restaurant however).

Prawns cooked in olive oil with garlic and chilli is a classic.

Padron peppers are in season and most big supermarkets have them currently. Fried with some olive oil then generously sprinkled with malden salt after they're amazing.....

Mmm... might have to do tapas night.

That goat cheese in honey sounds good. I have a vague memory of eating that in Spain.

White bean stew
Chorizo in red wine or sweet cider
Meatballs
Garlic prawns
Iberico ham
Croquettes

I LOVE tapas. It's a royal pain in the arse to prepare though!

Crema Catalana

My go to dishes are meatballs, chorizo in red wine, spinach with chickpeas, courgette salad and patatas bravas. If we have guests I might also do some meats, cheeses and breads, sometimes a tortilla, some mini chicken skewers.

Spam88 · 29/05/2020 20:39

And a massive jug of sangria obviously.

Yeah tapas ain't tapas without crouquettas, or meatballs are tasty too!

Spaniard here! You have to try fried aubergines with honey, they are a typical "tapas" dish from the south of Spain, but not very well known to foreigners.
You peel the aubergines and chop them as you would with potatoes to do chips. Make a batter with flour and beer (there are lots of recipes out there but whatever batter you are comfortable with will do) and cover the aubergines with flour before dunking them in the batter to deep fry them.
Get rid of the excess oil with a paper towel and then serve with drizzled honey and salt on top. Yum!

Not strictly Spanish but at a tapas place near ne they do halloumi, courgette and peppers all cut into little cubes fried in Rose Harissa and serve with ciabatta
I absolutely love it.

I made tapas tonight!

I did : patatas bravas, meatballs in spicy tomato sauce, chorizo, pepper and butterbean stew, garlic mushrooms and prawns and scallops with garlic and lemon.

This has inspired me. I think I'm going to do a tapas night and spend a day prepping. I'm also going to do pork belly - me and DS can eat it!!! Chickpea and spinach - yes. That's a great one.

And I'm definitely trying the aubergine thing. Sounds AMAZING.
