How long for chicken?!!

Took a BIG pack of chicken out of the freezer Saturday morning. By the time I came to use it Saturday night it hadn't completely defrosted. Popped it in the fridge and forgot about it.... Would it be OK to cook now??!

I wouldn't

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 26/05/2020 09:46

I would, if it was fresh when frozen and smells ok.

EndlessUserName · 26/05/2020 10:01

I'm sure the rule is to eat it within 24 hours of it being defrosted, which it has well passed

Whattodowhattodooo · 26/05/2020 10:24

Bugger! OK thankyou 😊

Of course you can eat it now.

Freezing slows down the deterioration process massively. When it's defrosted that process speeds up again and may be slightly faster than if it hadn't been defrosted. I wouldn't think twice about cooking chicken that had been defrosted since, say, Sunday morning.

It will be fine.

You would know if it's off because the smell is vile!

Institutkarite · 26/05/2020 11:20

if It looks and, more importantly smells ok cook it.

Tabithha · 26/05/2020 11:23

I’ve done this before. Just smell it. It’s probably fine if it was still frozen when you put it in the fridge
