Recipe for a dense textured chocolate cake please

I'm making a Nintendo switch themed birthday cake which I want to do chequerboard inside in green Madeira cake and chocolate cake to look like minecraft. I'd really like quite a dense textured chocolate cake recipe please that will make a good 'solid' cake that I can use for the chequered effect to get good clear lines. Does anyone have a tried and tested recipe?

The National Trust vegan chocolate cake is very dense. I’ll find the recipe.

Look for one with ground almonds instead of flower.

I'd put cocoa in place of some of the flour in your Madeira recipie.

Oooh thanks.

I did consider just adding cocoa to the Madeira but in previous cakes it's been quite crumbly on the cut edges for the chequer board.

I will look at the NT one, thank you

Donna Hay's one bowl chocolate cake, made mostly with almond flour, is very dense. If it's cooked the day before, it becomes even more dense over time. It's incredible. It doesn't rise much so as I don't fully understand what you're trying to do, not sure if that will work for you.

@BlingLoving thanks I will look at that one.
I'm trying to make a chequerboard cake (cut concentric circles out of different coloured cakes and switch them round within the later so when you cut the cake it looks like blocks)
