Storing home made bread

Does anyone have any top tips for storing home made bread to make it last? I have only recently started making my own bread, which I love. I’ve tried keeping it in a plastic bag but doesn’t seem to keep fresh for long. Many thanks

Home made bread doesn't keep for long as it doesn't have preservatives in it. Home made really needs to be eaten on the day it is made, or toasted the day after.

I wrap mine in a tea towel and store in the bread bin but agree, it doesn’t stay fresh for long.

Make smaller loaves?
There are 3 of us here and a small breadmaker loaf (1.5lb - 3 cups of flour) doesn't last a day so storage isn't an issue.
If I make a bigger one (2lb - 4 cups of flour) anything left get toasted for breakfast.
I put on in on a timer last night that will be ready in 30 mins.

Internet wisdom suggested a cotton bag would keep bread fresher than other methods. Been using one for a few months and can't see much difference. Looks tidier and nicer though.

I slice and freeze mine as I am the only one who eats spelt. It lasts a couple of weeks in there.

I freeze lots.

I used to slice mine once cooled and freeze several slices together so I could use as required

tea towel in bread bin.
it will get stale before it goes off - but it will still be nice as toast.
or slice it and freeze it. defrost in toaster.

I use a large food-grade polyurethane laminate bag (you can buy them as nappy bags, Applecheeks are food grade) , as this is breathable , keeps bread fresh and still moist enough to use without going mouldy for a whole week.

This was me a few weeks ago, made my very first loaf. I researched it and like pp say, realised nothing would make it stay fresh beyond a day or two. Ended up using some plain food bags from Waitrose.

It tasted absolutely divine as toast when it went stale though. I think I even preferred it!
