How to keep red wine

Opening a bottle of red wine (corked) for a glass. What's the best way to store it after that and how long will it keep for. TIA

I believe storing it in the fridge can make it last for around a week. That's what I usually do and it tastes fine. But you'd take it out half an hour or so before to bring it to room temperature.

Unless you're like me who enjoys chilled red wine 😲

Tin foil lid, if you can't get the cork back in. Next time get a screw cap bottle.

Preferably cork if you can get it back in or you can get those little wine stops if it's a regular occurrence.

In my house, an open bottle of wine is a empty bottle of wine.
I don't believe in corking it.

But I suppose some people do.

It sort of depends on the type of wine.
A bottle of red would last 3-5 days with a cork.
If it's a bottle of Petit Syrah, it should last 5 days but if it's a bit lighter like a Pinot Noir, I would say 3.
If you have a cold room, you could store it there. I live in Texas so our current 95F (feels like 102F) temps means I have to put it in the fridge.

As for chilled red wine, I'm okay with it.
Again, it depends on the wine.
A Gamay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Valpolicella could use a little chill. But don't get crazy!

You want to keep the air out and chill it to slow down oxidation. If you leave it a little to long and it starts to go a bit vinegary, you could still cook with it.

Thank you all. I always buy screw top for this reason but I didn't realise this was corked lol. Also I hear yas... But sometimes I fancy a mix e.g. A gin then a cider then a wine.... I know mixing is bad but sure. So that explains why I'm keeping some of the wine heehee

You don't need to justify keeping wine for a few days. Maybe 5 is unusual but we never drink a bottle in an evening and if we had the first half on Friday and then (in normal times) were out at the weekend it could easily be 4.

We regularly drink half a bottle between us with dinner then have the rest several days later. Just put the cork back in usually. It's fine after 3-5 days, but now I think of it I'll probably stick it in the fridge as it's getting warmer.

You want one of these - they pump the air out and seal it as if never opened, then it keeps until you open it again. Loads of them on amaz - just put wine evacuator or vacu vin in search. We use it all the time never finish a bottle in one go.

If it's something you're going to do regularly you might consider buying a vacuum wine saver. It's basically a device that pumps all the air out the bottle and seals it to prevent oxidation. You can pick them up for under a tenner on Amazon. I've never used one myself as a bottle of wine rarely lasts more than a couple of hours in this house once opened.

Had a chilled bottle of Brouilly (Gamay grape) in Grenoble years ago when it was really hot and it tasted amazing with steak. I think chilling New World Pinot Noir works, because it takes the sweetness away.
