I sometimes make this but use sweetcorn not peas

I like it with some salad and new potatoes

PorpentiaScamander · 13/05/2020 22:34

We just have it with salad and bread and butter.

Wallywobbles · 13/05/2020 22:35

Thank you. New potatoes seem like a good flavor texture combo.

Use it to make a kedgeree instead of smoked haddock.

One of my favourite things is a kind of potato salad dish - cut up the mackerel, boil new potatoes, mix it with the mackerel, mayonnaise and spring onions. I have a green salad on the side, maybe a boiled egg. So tasty!

In a salad with beetroot and goats cheese with balsamic vinegar, perfect combination.

I shred it, mix with creme Fraiche and sometime chop some pickled onions up to mix in and eat on toasted pita breads

One of the most delicious things I've used it for is Mary Berry's smoked mackerel pate on toast - simply delicious, I will try and find the recipe

It's so easy - smoked mackerel, mascarpone, lime juice and zest, salt and pepper all in a blender.

Toast slices of French bread - spread with real butter and too with mackerel 😍

All of these sound delicious! I'm going to show them to fussy eater DS1 and see if he fancies any of them!

I do this but without the capers and with grated parmigianno in with the breadcrumbs. It's really nice.

Mackerel dauphinois ...absolutely delicious with a handful of watercress and squeezed lemon and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc.

Super easy, make ahead meal - basically a classic dauphinois but dotting pieces of mackerel between the layers of potato.

Nigel Slater’s recipe from The Guardian:

Waldorf salad, either bought or homemade, with the mackerel flaked into it is delicious. The combination of grapes, apple, celery etc with the oily fish really works well.

Other things I like mackerel with are using it instead of tuna with salade Niçoise ingredients, or with a mild curried salad mixture (similar to Coronation chicken ingredients but without the chicken!)

Mackerel also works well with Moroccan style cous-cous and chickpea salad, as the strongly flavoured fish balances the bland chickpeas.
Stir some pesto into potato & mackerel salad for added interest.

Thank you all. I will get inspired.
